The OPJGJKS is working towards
establishing the JGU and the JGLS, whose institutional calibre will
be comparable to the best in the world. The OPJGJKS is committed to
providing all physical infrastructure including land and buildings
for setting up the JGU and the JGLS. It is also committed to
providing funding for running the JGU and the JGLS till such time as
the various endowments are established. The OPJGJKS requires
enhancing its financial capabilities by invoking the support of a
number of philanthropists. We hope that our vision to establish the
JGU would find support through your funding of certain components of
the JGLS. The following will give you some information about the
specific ways in which you can contribute to this initiative.
Endowed Chair Professorships
The JGLS is being established without any financial support from
the government. This means that the creation, sustainability and
future development of the JGLS will depend upon the endowments the
JGLS proposes to establish for itself. For each endowed chair
professorship, the JGLS will need INR 5 crores (approx. USD 1.25
Million). This will ensure that the salaries and other expenses
relating to the chair professorship will be met from the interests
accrued from the endowment for the chair professorships. The JGLS
will establish more than fifty chair professorships on various
subjects relating to law and allied disciplines. The name of the
donor, or any other person or institution the donor wishes to be
named, will be the title of the particular chair professorship.
Endowed Research Centres
The JGLS seeks to become one of the leading centres for research on
cutting-edge issues relating to law and justice. To fulfil this
objective, the JGLS will be establishing various research centres in
diverse fields of law, including common law and civil law, public
law, international law, corporate law and corporate governance,
banking law, human rights, alternative dispute resolution,
environmental law, cyber law and technology law, gender studies,
intellectual property rights, media law, shipping law, criminology,
European legal studies, Chinese legal studies, and Islamic legal
studies. The JGLS will need INR 10 crores (approx. USD 2.50 Million)
to establish a research centre. This will ensure that the expenses
relating to a particular research centre are met from the endowment.
The JGLS hopes to establish twenty endowed research centres in
different phases on various subjects relating to law and allied
disciplines. The name of the donor, or any other person or
institution the donor wishes to be named, will be the title of the
particular research centre.
Endowed Departments
The JGLS, to effectively fulfil its mission to promote excellence
in legal education and research, intends to establish five endowed
departments. Chair professors, other faculty members and research
staff will be part of one or more of such departments. For the
purposes of establishing an endowed department, the JGLS will need
INR 20 crores (approx. USD 5 million). This will ensure that
expenses relating to a particular department are met from the
interests accrued from the endowment. A chair professor must belong
to at least one of the departments. Expenses for staff development
activities of that chair professor will be met from the
department(s) to which the chair professor belongs. The name of the
donor, or any other person or institution the donor wishes to be
named, will be the title of the particular department. The JGLS
wishes to establish the following departments: the Department of
Comparative and Public Law; 2. the Department of Corporate and
Commercial Law; 3. the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal
Justice; 4. the Department of International Law; and 5. the
Department of Private Law.
Endowed Law Library
The law library at the JGLS will be the first of its kind in Asia.
It will offer world class library resources relating to Indian law,
international law and comparative law and the librarys
infrastructure will be comparable to the best law libraries in the
world. It will provide state of the art research facilities
including access to electronic databases. Establishing such a law
library will attract scholars and practitioners from India and
abroad and would require a financial support of INR 50 crores
(approx. USD 12.5 Million). The law library will be named after the
donor or any other person or institution the donor wishes to be
named.
