The Om Prakash Jindal Gramin Jan
Kalyan Sansthan (OPJGJKS) is a non-profit society based in India and
is the sponsoring organisation for establishing the O.P. Jindal
Global University (JGU) and the Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). The
University is named in memory of Mr. O.P. Jindal, whose life’s
journey from a farmer’s son to a successful industrialist, a
philanthropist, a politician and a leader serves as a great source
of inspiration for generations to come. His worthy son, Mr. Naveen
Jindal is the promoter and founder of this institution and is the
Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Jindal Steel &
Power Limited (JSPL). Mr. Jindal, a member of the Congress party, is
a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) in India since 2004 representing
the Kurukshetra constituency in the State of Haryana.
The establishment of the JGU and JGLS has received strong
encouragement and support from Mr. H.R. Bharadwaj, Cabinet Minister
for Law & Justice, Government of India; and Mr. Jairam Ramesh,
Minister of State for Commerce & Power, Government of India.
One of the aims of the OPJGJKS is to establish educational
institutions with a view to promoting excellence in teaching,
research and academic development. In furtherance of that aim, the
OPJGJKS is establishing the JGU to create a global university of
international standards in India. The JGLS will be the first school
to be established under the aegis of the JGU. The JGLS will provide
students unique global perspectives through its curriculum, faculty
expertise, research collaborations, and thematic programmes.
